Rumors have been flying around but a pretty well regarded member at Neogaf threw out some details.

Q1 2017

Related info from a meeting we had yesterday was waiting for it to be approved before posting.

Price is currently $399.99 they were discussing a better CPU which would raise the price to $499.99 we were guaranteed the price will be no higher than $499.99 (He mentioned the CPU upgrade quite a bit almost as if they haven't really decided on a final spec could be a pricing issue.) also there is currently no plan for any type of trade in program for current PS4 users but that could change.

They stated that the GPU is twice as powerful as standard PS4 and much faster. They did not say exactly how fast but that is was running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.

It will have a 4k blu ray player and will upscale games that are not natively 4k.

Also there was talk of some sort of VR lounge for the media player app which is supposed to be getting a substantial upgrade.

It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.

It was also made very clear that current games would not be getting any type of performance upgrades by being played on the system and any benefits to older games would come via patch per game and per developer. When asked if this was going to happen the response was "Its a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."
We were also given a list of games that will be available at launch that will directly take advantage of the PS4K where the differences are and I will quote him "Significant."

For the PSVR

Eve Valkyrie
Robinson
GT Sport

For the PS4K

Deep Down (Thought this was dead)
GOW4 (This was the exact abbreviation on the sheet I can only assume its god of war 4)

There were more games on the list but these are the ones that stood out to me.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head I'll see if I can get any more information.

I've been following the PS4K stories too and have to admit that I'm not too happy about the situation. Sony has been doing better than ever expected this generation and I think this is going to hurt them.

For starters, regardless of what they say, it's going to split the installed base and people who currently own a PS4 are going to feel slighted (myself included). It's also going to hurt sales of the current system because late adopters are going to hold out for the newer system, which I would do too.

If developers have to manage two code bases for each game, one for the PS4 and one for the PS4k, it's going to allow fewer resources per title. If they both use the same code base, either PS4K games will be downgraded so they run properly on the standard PS4 or standard PS4 games will not be optimized and run like crap while looking and running fine the PS4K.

I understand that this console generation is under-powered and PCs have far superior specs, but this isn't the right way to fix it. PCs are still going to have more power and continue to out-power the PS4K by larger margins in the years to come. It's a fact of life for console owners and something we accept for the sake of simplicity (although that's changing too).

Some think this is a panic move because Nintendo's new console is on the horizon and Microsoft has hinted about an upgraded Xbox One. I just hope Sony thought this through and doesn't kill the momentum they've gained this generation.

First, I need a 4K set. In a couple of years, DTV and Netflix will have a good amount of 4K content. At that time, i could see trading up to the 4K PS4.
4k is not possible for PS4 via firmware update, so another sku is an inevitability.
Obligatory "maybe CD playback will be included with new improved PS4 revision" snark.

It could always be worse. I had the 32x but not the CD. Though I did buy a 3DO so pretty much the same in terms of getting screwed.

If they could force a 60FPS for the NEO I would be all in and trade in my PS4 for it.  What concerns me most is that future PS4 games will simply look worse than they would had NEO not existed and a little extra effort went to the NEO version.

Jason

I still think this is a bad move by Sony with the biggest issue being that developers won't have the resources to optimize the standard or Neo version of their games. I would have expected a move like this from Microsoft, who is so far behind this generation, but it's very surprising to see Sony take this risk.
