Not sure why they haven't announced a release date yet considering it's supposed to come out this month.

No clue. They are releasing another video later in the day. I am sure the Coronavirus has had some impact on getting games approved, etc.
New video is out:

Looking good. Can't wait to try out that franchise mode. Skipping college teams this year. Going to make a league full of businesses. Fast food restaurants, soft drink mfgs, computer mfgs, etc, each in their own separate divisions/conference.

QuoteWe know you’re eager for a release date, which unfortunately we haven’t been able to finalize yet. Industry-wide changes due to COVID-19 have led to some logistical delays in the game’s release. We’re not at the point where a delay beyond the April window is definite yet, but we’re optimistic that if there is a delay it will be minimal. We’re going to get the game in your hands as quickly as we can - we’ll announce a release date once it’s confirmed.
SMB 3 now coming out May 13th. New video below:

Well worth the wait.
There's also a demo being released tomorrow for those who may want to try it out before buying it.

I was going to pre-order/download it before I went to sleep but it still has not shown up on the xbox store/console. Makes me wonder if you have to pay a % to PSN/MS to have your game listed as a pre-order? It seems almost silly to not have it there if you are not being charged. It did show up on the search from the console and had a placeholder with all the game info, etc. Did show it would be 13GB which is almost 10GB more than SMB2.

To quote Jason, quoting Jason, I too am downloading.
The new stadiums and time of day options are a thing of beauty. Still can't figure out which on I want to use for my team. So far it plays great and all the new additions are well implemented. I may just start a season with the existing teams to get the hang of the franchise mode.
Also nice to see they were able to poke fun at the Astros. Found this on Reddit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SuperMegaBaseball/comments/gj759l/this_hilarious_pdo_description_sorry_bad_quality/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/SuperMegaBaseball/comments/gj759l/this_hilarious_pdo_description_sorry_bad_quality/)
I wanted to start an in depth franchise with 32 teams so my plans changed. Went with 32 states - East/West Conference broken down by areas. The best football team in each state dictates the color scheme/look of the uniform. Gives me a college feel but being in a franchise playing with old guy/gals that can be traded on a whim.
All teams are done. Now I am going to tweak rosters to make sure teams have at least two descent starting pitchers. Was always a problem in the past for AI teams that specialized in the bullpen. What good is a bullpen when you are always behind a couple runs. I found a couple issues with the sound. The crowd tends to be watching a Home Run Derby and never quiets down, so mlous I probably need to turn it down. Also some of sound coming off the bats (especially bad contact/foul balls) sound more arcadey than SMB2. Baserunning has changed and I need to look at the tutorial. Used to be the shoulder buttons would advance all runners but now it seems to only affect the lead runner.
Jason did you see the Custom Pennant Feature that is coming out this summer? You can setup a cross-platform league and it keeps track of all the stats. wins/losses/etc. So we could actually renew our rivalry, assuming the visions of all those drubbings in NCAA Football are out of your head. ;)
https://youtu.be/JCd7qmXcpLw
I've played a handful of games myself and really like the new additions like pickoffs and wild pitches.
I haven't had the baserunning issue you're seeing. I've always used just L1 and R1 to advance and retreat all my runners and it's working the same as it always has in previous years. Maybe it's a bug in the Xbox version.
I was excited when I first saw that it supported cross-platform play, but I'm surprised that didn't include simple online versus play.

Some more observations...pitching is definitely tougher this year. They also need to tweak the lighting a little. The strike zone can be hard to see during night games, which tend to be a bit over-saturated and day games are a little too dark in the shadows.
They tweaked he settings. Used to be you could use the triggers to advance/retreat all runners. Now the triggers only advance/retreat/hold the lead runner. The shoulder buttons advance/retreat/hold all runners.
I'll have to check the PS4 version of SMB 2 because I could have sworn I used the shoulder buttons last year too, which is also the same with The Show.
Pretty sure you could use either last year (trigger or shoulder) to advance/retreat all runners and holding both shoulder buttons froze the runners. Now that they have a setup specifically for the lead runner you can't.
Won my first USA League Game as Oklahoma outlasts Ohio 3-1. Starting at Ego 39 across the board. Will tweak as necessary.
this is on Steam as well. Thinking about picking it up even though I didn't enjoy the earlier version. This has franchise though. And cross platform.

Well it shows that 2 is in my steam library. I don't remember all the reasons I didn't enjoy it much, but part of it may have been I didn't like the pitching (or was it the hitting) and not having a franchise mode. I mean I knew that going in, but thought I could get past it. Then I couldn't. And so I said I was "going out for a pack of smokes" and MLB the Show was waiting to pick me up around the corner and I ran back into her arms.
I've watched some videos and I'm pretty sure I'm still not going to like the on the field play. But it does have franchise. But oh that price point. But but but.
I don't know.

LOL maybe?
We've had our differences in the past, but I will admit that one of the best online experiences I ever had was playing that 2v2 hockey game with you against those two randoms. It was a tough game, still tied either going into the end of the third or maybe we were in OT, not sure, but that one dude was getting chippy with me and he was obviously their better player. So I said to you this guy wants to go so I'm gonna fight this guy, Brent. And when we are off the ice it's just gonna be you and the other guy until time runs out and you're better. I knew you could beat him. And then you scored. It was fucking great. Don't know if you remember that but I sure do. It was like I could see the future and then it came true.
Back to reality though....is online baseball still a suck fest because of lag between pitching and hitting timing? I remember even with decent connections you almost had to agree to throw only strikes because just a few ms of ping made it awful to try and hit.

I played some randoms online in SMB2 and it was okay, outside of the cheesing. Wish I could remember that NHL moment, memory is not what it used to be. We had some fun playing our little leagues. Would be nice to try it again. We will always have differences, same with me an Jason but that's just how it is.
6-0, time to bump the ego up to 45. Might go 50 for pitching as I have only give up 10 hits and 1 run. This is where I ended up last year on batting, pitching I was able to go 60. I have tried 50+ batting and my reflexes do not stand the test of time.

All great fixes but even with the issues it is still an amazing game. Looking ahead to the future, customizable stadiums has to be a priority for SMB4. You can create all these amazing teams but so many of the stadiums simply do not work for realistic custom leagues. Currently making a new NCAA 32 team franchise and half of the stadiums just don't fit well for most of the US. Would also like the have the option to have access to all the different day/duck/night/special weather option for each stadium. Love playing games in overcast conditions and it's why I stick with the Motor Yard for my user controlled teams.
Also give us an aluminum bat option. PING!
I'm assuming I'll need PS Plus if we decide to do the online Pennant Race Mode. It's currently on sale for $40, so I'll probably buy it while it's cheap.

Jason I am adding an S tier player to each teams rotation and starting lineup. Any thoughts on 1979? I was thinking Phil Simms for pitcher even though it was his rookie year. The other? I was thinking Harry Carson or Brad Van Pelt.
Phil Simms works for me, but it's your call to make. This is your baby so run with it.
This is probably a dumb question, but when this Online Pennant Mode update comes out will we all be able to all play against each other online even though we're on three different systems? Also, has there been any update on when it's supposed to come out other than "sometime in June"?
No updates I am aware of.
Will we be able to game games against each other and have voice chat available?
Om Xbox you can voice chat cross-platform. Just a simple setting to turn on/off. It is limited to in game chat, not party chat. There are some ways around this but not very convenient. Pretty sure PS4 in game chat works the same.
Uniforms and Logos complete. Steeler Roster complete. just need to finish the rest of the teams rosters.

Depends on if they allow roster/uniform sharing on consoles. Only PC players can do that and only because of a mod.
Good soundtrack
Mattie Bats hit a walk off grand slam to beat the Sirloins 13-10. Crazy see-saw game.
What Ego is everyone playing on? 45 batting 60 for pitching/defense.
Currently 42. I go up 1 or down 1 at a time depending if I win or lose. I won the first couple of games pretty easily then bumped it up to the first notch of "serious" which I think is 39? From there I adopted the +1/-1 plan for the remainder of my first season and will see where it settles out.
That is a good idea. If we end up playing each other we would have to settle on a ego. Head to head should be less of an issue of we all agree on something close.
I can pitch fine up to 65, used to be higher in SMB2 but they did bump the difficulty and batters just do not budge on pitches outside the strike zone or I am doing something wrong. I have never been able to bat above 50 on any of them. My reaction to pitches just breaks down at that number. So to keep games close I just constantly adjust pitching.
Are you guys fucking kidding me?!? I use the the default which is 15 and still lose on a regular basis.
Do you both play full 9 inning games?
I play full 9's
My Sawteeth are 8-3 now. EGO 45.
Brent, you can't get the batters to swing at bad pitches on any ego or just once you have bumped it up? I'm still able to routinely set them up for a two strike swing at something that's a bit off the plate. They protect pretty well. I don't get a lot of strikeouts, but I do get them to put bad pitches into play.
I don't think we have to play on the same ego. I'm pretty sure you are allowed to set ego independently and if so I wouldn't be against that to keep things fun.
Jason,
I play 7 inning games.
Only once I bump it up to 70-75 ego which is what I used with SMB2 at the end, that is where the AI tends to ignore everything outside the strike zone. They said they made the game harder, especially at higher ego's and they did just that. On 45 it's not a problem and I can get an average of 5 strikeouts a game. On 60 (my default pitching) I get 3-4 strikeouts but give up far more HR's when I make a mistake and a few more walks. Now if I were to switch to power pitching, I would be screwed on any Ego. Can't control that at all. Power hitting I can do with the analog stick just fine but I tend to stick with the buttons and get plenty of power.
How are you enjoying the game so far? I think if they can clean up the drops from catchers and first basemen it will be good as gold for me. They have already commented on this and will have far less drops to first base on balls in the air. The AI base running, particularly the leadoff and how far they go with a pitch that is hit in the air can be a problem. Have had a few more double plays due to runners getting halfway to the next base on a medium hit ball that does not get out of the infield. Flip side, I do a batter job of stopping the runner and head back. So that one does not bother me as much.
I'm fine playing at a higher ego. I'm sure I'll get better the more I play.
Hopefully the gameplay update, which includes baserunning fixes, will be part of the Online Pennant Mode update.
I have to say that I do seriously dislike the outfield play.
3 losses in a row on 46. F!

how so? If you mean how it auto-fields. Turn up fielding to 75 or 99.
I have a terrible time judging the fly balls. A lot of routine looking stuff ends up dropping in because I can't tell where it's going to fall. It's the weakest part of my game and the weakest part of the game, imo. Kills the enjoyment quite a bit.
Even though the outfield play is essentially automatic, I've always wanted a marker showing where the ball is going to land.
Sent from my LM-Q610(FGN) using Tapatalk
It's not automatic at 46 ego. I would estimate that I have to steer them towards the catch on 75% of the balls hit to the outfield. They might run in that direction, but they almost never get there on their own.
Snapped my 3 game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Heaters.
I thought fielding was pretty much automatic regardless of the ego setting so the lack of a ball marker really makes no sense.
Sent from my LM-Q610(FGN) using Tapatalk
If you put the fielding ego to the max it is less automatic You will have to move to the desired location with less assistance. Fielding in the outfield actually has a visual clue, not a marker but once they raise their hands up you have hit the right spot. While it has never been an issue for me they could add the option of a landing marker or go old school and have the shadow of the ball get smaller as it descends.
I renewed my PS Plus so I'll be ready once the patch drops.

Pittsburgh 4-0 at home against a 1-3 Dallas. Bradshaw vs Staubach. Each team scores a run early and it goes to extra innings tied 1-1. I have to pull Bradshaw. Dallas hits a 2 run HR in the second extra inning. Staubach who has been sailing along gets me to pop out, line drive and the catcher grabs a foul ball to end the game. :-[
To make matters worse, I am destroying the Giants in the next game. They were one of the really bad teams in 1979, so don't blame me Jason. Up 9-0 in the 3rd and Ray Freaking Rhodes hits a fork ball right in my pitchers kisser to knock him not only out of the game but for his next start. Ironically the ball hit so hard the catcher was able to scoop it up and get the out at first.
10-2 right now. Lost to Cleveland which is as bad as losing to Dallas. Most teams are in-line with the 1979 season. The two surprises are the Lions at .500 and the Chargers at 4-7. San Diego was tied with Pittsburgh for the best record in the regular season and I built their roster as such. Detroit only won two games and built them to be that bad. The Giants are only 2-10 and they have a far better roster.
If you guys are interested I am running a 7 inning 62 game franchise that I pan to run a few years. At 20/40/62 games I can post the standings and the league leaders.
Sure, go for it.
Sent from my LM-Q610(FGN) using Tapatalk
Absolutely.
It's interesting that you've reversed offensive and defensive roles using quarterbacks for the pitchers. If it were me I'd have all RBs and WRs in the field and the QBs as Catchers. If that was really unappetizing then QBs as CF or SS.
The defensive players would be the pitchers since pitchers are the first line of defense, with the DLs as the starters and the LBs. CBs or safeties as relievers.
It's a mixed pot with some teams. One of the reasons I went with Jack Lambert as a CF is he played in the Tampa 2 defense which meant on a pass he was playing Center Field. Probably put too much though into that but most of the OF is WR's DB's and RB's. Again this varied by team as I did not have a hard fast rule. I have some linemen in the infield, especially 1B. All were adjusted as best I could to the player and position. 28 teams with 21 players on each team, it was much more time consuming than I expected. Plus I edited every player to the correct color, hair and face as best I could remember.
Currently 12-3 as my editing just gave me an "L" to San Francisco. Steve DeBerrg was the starter in 1979 and Montana was a Rookie. Decided to make Montana the S rated pitcher but in doing so, felt bad for DeBerg and made him an A+ rated pitcher. This was for a team that went 2-14 in 1979 so the rest of the roster outside of the one S rated non-pitcher was edited to be that crappy. Yet somehow they have stayed near .500 and DeBerg shut me out for 6 innings as they took a 4-0 lead. Was able to score 3 in the final inning but yet another popup on a high pitch doomed me, as it did all game.
Also with my rosters I only went with players from 1979 that I had actually heard of. Only the Cowboys and Steelers roster are completely from that year. Some teams I only knew 4-5 players. So I ended up using a bunch of All-Pros from across each decade. I did my best to make the 1979 players the best rated players. Also to differentiate between the two, any player who did not play in 1979 got their name reversed. So Lane Night Train is tearing it up right now for the Cardinals. Had to throw some owners in on a couple teams. The Browns, Bengals and Tampa Bay were nightmares due to how bad their teams were over the year.
Stats and Leaders through week 20. Came off a heartbreaking loss to Atlanta in 10 innings, Then in a win at Detroit I lose Stallworth and Swan to injury (out a couple games) and another pitcher is flattened by a hit and will miss a start.

from the steam patch notes:
"Franchise news feed text has been updated to use gender-neutral pronouns."
lol where's Brent. I want to see if the top of his head blows off.
Just call me Zim big boy. Zieself thinks it's a wonderful addition to the game. ;)
Don't know if it was the patch or I was rusty but Ken Stabler shut me out for 6 innings. had a two run lead heading to the bottom of the final inning. Then he loaded the bases, walked in the first run. Joe Green has been slumping so I desperately subbed him with out of position Rocky Bleier. Base hit, two runs score, the Steelers win!
I was getting tired of changing names back so I cancelled my franchise and started a 162 game/7 inning season where I do not have to worry about trades, FA's and such.
Halfway through creating my 30 team College Football League that consists of All-Americans from each team. This one I have tweaked to only have two divisions (North and South) due to so many teams changing conferences over the years. Also plan on running a 162 game/7 inning season with it. Top 4 teams from each division advance to the playoffs.
We might not have football this year but by gosh I will have something to get me through the winter.
I lost to the Cleveland Browns today in 15 innings.
I'm still waiting for the online pennant mode.

It looks like online leagues is finally coming next week (9/29).
Yup, will be interesting to see it in action. Have not seen the patch notes but they really need to tone down the fielders missing a ground ball, especially when diving and having it roll 20 yards away. It was comical the first few times, now not so much.
Patch is out. I just setup a league as a test. If you guy want to do different setting it is no problem, just trying it out.
Name: SGNBB

Various other minor UI improvements and touch-ups have been made.
Minor cinematic camera improvements have been made.

Fixed: In online play, base stealers are allowed to retreat too quickly after giving steal input or after the pitcher steps off, resulting in a "steal spamming" exploit.
Fixed: In online play, pressing the swing button before the pitch delivery telegraphs to the batter whether a pitch is on its way, leading to a base stealing exploit.
Fixed: Baserunners can be picked off on low throws in the dirt from the pitcher, even when no steal input is given.
Fixed: AI outfielders sometimes throw behind runners when they should be throwing ahead of them.
Fixed: In Pennant Race, a user can unintentionally be locked into the same team for the next race without being given an opportunity to pick a new team.
Fixed: In Pennant Race, player stats can fail to record after a player forfeits the game.
Fixed: A Franchise, Season, or Elimination playthrough can become inaccessible / crash the game on entry due to a corrupt mid-game save file generated via the "Finish Later" option in the pause menu.

Fixed: In Franchise mode, season stats (AVG, ERA, WHIP, etc.) are not visible in the post game stats.

Fixed: In Franchise mode, after many seasons, the game can lock-up after pressing the Skip Offseason button.
Fixed: Two batters appear at the plate after ball is thrown out of play during a strikeout cinematic.
Fixed: Baserunner could end up starting the next at-bat at the wrong base following a fouled bunt third strike.
Fixed: Sub n Swipe achievement not being awarded correctly.
Fixed: In online play, attempting to send a chat message at an inopportune time can inadvertently trigger a stolen base attempt or other unwanted behavior.
Fixed: In online play, a player's batting stance appears different than the one chosen for them via customization.
Fixed: When playing online co-op Franchise mode in the offseason, game can crash in the Sign and Release screen after advancing to the next round.

Pretty sure any setting can be changed, you want something different let me know. Will wait and see if Ted wants to play.
It shows no voice chat for crossplay which sucks but there could be a workaround. If you want to try the game out online just give me a time and I will be there.
Ok, I should be around all weekend. I'll be in touch.

Sorry I should check in more often. I probably should excuse myself from the invite. Work is super busy (all year) and I don’t think I could reliably get games in. That being said if you want me to join and you can just sim past me when I don’t show up then send me a code? Otherwise thanks for thinking of me.

Another big patch released today: https://www.reddit.com/r/SuperMegaBaseball/comments/rbwetw/update_7_patch_notes/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/SuperMegaBaseball/comments/rbwetw/update_7_patch_notes/)
I may have to start playing it again.
Super Mega Baseball 4 coming out June 2nd.
Super Mega 4 hitting Gamepass this month.
I came close to buying SMB 4 when it was on sale last month, but I was hoping for more gameplay improvements. It seems like most of the new additions were for customizing your team/league.
Which one has classic or licensed players?

It's SMB 4. I'd rather have all fictional players for that type of game.

Did you get a chance to try it out? It's finally dropped to $20, so I'd considering picking it up if the gameplay is better than 3.
I did indeed, it feels an awful lot like 3, but I don't play these a lot. Probably the best looking of the bunch, it seems very polished.
Thanks for the info. I'll probably buy it since I wanted one of the Super Mega Baseball games on Xbox, and at $20 it's cheaper than either SMB 2 or SMB 3.

I ended up buying it. I'm waiting until I finish AC before trying it out.
