PS5 Logo Revealed.
Sony decided not to change things up too much...or at all, other than a number change.

Mark Cerny will provide a deep dive into PS5’s system architecture tomorrow (9am PT/12pm ET). Interesting timing as Microsoft has just released more specs on the Xbox Series X. Sony must feel confident with their specs.
The proprietary storage expansion for XbX will be expensive. Hopefully, Sony won't follow suit. Anyway, the new consoles will be delayed well into next year.
It's always exciting to hear about the specs even though I didn't plan on buying one anytime soon. Christmas 2021 would probably be the earliest for me anyway, so the delay won't really affect me.

I'm with you, until there is some compelling titles I'm not buying.
I was a little disappointed in today's "reveal". I was hoping to get a look at the console and wasn't thrilled about the backwards compatibility. I was hoping for 100% backwards comparability with the PS4 instead of the "top 100 games working so far".
Showing some gameplay wouldn't have been a bad idea either.

Adaptive triggers will be a big plus. That was a major omission on the PS4 controller. Battery life will be interesting once revealed.
Good point. Battery life was a big complaint on the DS4. It'll be interesting to see if Sony listened and addressed the issue.
I'm personally glad to see they moved to USB-C connections this time around.

Sony's new blog post basically confirmed that I'll be getting a PS5 as my next gen console:
Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.

It's official. The PS5 is launching on 11/12 for $499 for the standard PS5 and $399 for digital version. I think those are the prices everyone was expecting and hoping for. $399 for the digital version is a pretty good deal.
Sony released a FAQ for PS5 backward compatibility and it's better than I expected: https://support.playstation.com/s/article/backward-compatibility?language=en_US&lan=
Good for me as I have missed out on a bunch of PS4 games since not having a PS4 for a few years. If I end up with one it is nice to know almost all PS4 games will be available.
I've been starting to get interested in the PS5, but not for the new games. Now that they've worked out a lot of the compatibility issues, I'm looking forward to playing my PS4 games in a higher resolution with improved frame rates. PS4 games like Days Gone, Ghost Tsushima and MLB The Show 20 are like completely new games on the PS5. Having said that, I still don't see myself buying one before the fall...assuming I could even find one.
Therein lies the rub. They are almost impossible to find and will be for months to come. I won't pay over face value for one, and will only buy from a reputable retailer. If that opportunity arises, I will jump on it.

Same here. I read stories about people buying from scalpers and cringe. I'm so picky about who I buy from online when it's not an expensive item. I've never even bought or sold an item on Ebay.

Scalpers are bad enough. People scalping consoles and only sending you the box are just evil. Ebay just as bad because they are just now trying to put a halt to "box selling."

That's some shady shit there. That kind of stuff has been going on for a long time on Ebay, but I think there's more protections against those types of scams now. My wife wonders why I hate most people.
It's about time they released different color controllers. Now if they could only produce more consoles. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210513/191c0ae7b9a493131b8ed6d7e81fd766.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210513/59379a5ed2aa39d03517c76e384ef6bf.jpg)

As much as I'd like another UHD drive in the house, I have a strong suspicion the digital versions will be somewhat available long before the disc version. You can see the scalper prices for it falling a bit lately, they seem to sell for less than a hundred over now.
I hope that's true. I'd rather not spend an extra $100 for a disc drive I'll never use. My PS4 slim will be 3 years old this Christmas and still has never had a disc in it.

Hey congrats! Ignore my question in the other thread.
Already here and setup.
Wow, Sony's not wasting any time getting those out the door. Would love to hear some impressions.
The setup couldn't be easier, It instantly recognized my external HDD I had been using with my Pro, and knows to d/l any PS4 stuff there. You can use DS4s for them.
I downloaded the games that have PS5 versions that I have, they go on the SSD automatically. Downloads and installs are blinding fast.
It is nice to have a console that doesn't sound like a hair dryer- this thing is whisper quiet.
Of course, I had to try Division 2 :) it is really like a new game, with better resolution, lighting, and frame rate.
How's the Dual Sense 5? I really like the DS4 and wonder if I'll like the DS5 as much.
I really like it, I need to get some kontrol freaks for it. What it really needs is a back button attachment, I'm a complete convert to that thing.
I don't have any discomfort with it, I think people with huge hands do.
The haptic stuff is well implemented so far as I've seen with CoD.
There's supposed to be a bunch of PS5 drops tomorrow. Hoping I can finally get one.

Added an SSD to the expansion bay in the PS5, a Samsung 980 Pro w/ heatsink. It is really easy, takes about 10 minutes and requires a screwdriver. Also running a Samsung T7 as an external, PS4 game loading times are comically short.
I've had the Samsung T7 in my Amazon shopping cart since November when it was $149. It's still a great deal at the current $159 price. You've got a bad-ass PS5 setup now.
I spent as much on SSDs as I did the console itself ;D
Now that my expenses from January are under control I'm in serious pursuit of a PS5. I bought Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart while it was on sale this week since it's the one game my younger son really wants to play. Now I just need to buy a PS5 so he can actually play it.
You'll really like it, it makes PS4 seem quaint.

I just ordered the Samsung T7 for my Series S. Transferring games back and forth with my current drive is slower than just downloading them again.

Sony Direct is supposed to have another PS5 drop today between 2pm and 7pm. Fingers crossed they pick my email address this time.
Did you get an invite?
Not yet.
Just verified that times are ET: https://gamingintel.com/ps-direct-ps5-restock-february-17/
People have reportedly gotten the emails and successfully ordered consoles already today so I guess Sony doesn't want my money too.
Target is supposed to have a PS5 drop on Thursday.
Another Playstation Direct drop today between 2pm - 7pm ET. Fingers crossed....
What annoys me is that some people have received this invitation more than once. Sony should not send emails to the same people, whether they bought a PS5 or not, until everyone has received the email at least once.
Yeah, that sucks. I didnt know that was a thing.
PS5 Digital will go up on Amazon at 8 AM PT on March 30th. Let's see how this goes...
Had it in my cart but couldn't complete checkout.
VRR is live, got it working today. Destiny 2 and CoD Vanguard ran beautifully, the lack of local dimming isn't the dealbreaker I thought it might be. Going to test other supported titles. Unsupported games, I may switch it off, not sure yet.
I'm in the same boat as you with my 900H and the lack of LD with VRR. Not sure if you updated your 900J to the latest firmware released yesterday (https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-lcd-tvs-android-/xr-65x90j/downloads), but it appears that Sony merged the J and K firmware, which is good news for you. You'll now get every update their 2022 K series gets.
I think the chipsets are similar enough, so another year or more of support is good stuff.
Quote from: Brad Company on April 29, 2022 @ 07:28 AMI think the chipsets are similar enough, so another year or more of support is good stuff.
They're identical, along with the H. They all use the same MediaTek SoC.
Plenty of people have installed the J firmware on their 900H sets with no issues.
I also read that upping the Gamma to +2 helps with the loss of LD while using VRR.
I'm probably only going to use VRR in specific instances. I'm not going to have it on all of the time.
I just ordered a PS5 controller from Amazon while they're on sale for $59. So now I own two PS5 exclusive games (Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves) and a PS5 controller, but no console.
I went with the purple controller since the newer colors come with the improved trigger springs.

As usual...
I finally got a PS5!!! I just ordered it directly from Sony. I ended up buying the Digital Edition Horizon Forbidden West Bundle for $449.99.
I was stressing out because shipping was $19.99 for non-PS Plus members, so I quickly purchased a month of PS Plus Essentials and had to remove the PS5 from my shopping cart and re-add it for the Sony Direct site to recognize that I was now a PS Plus member and offer the free shipping.
I've started moving all of my PS4 games to my 5TB external drive so I can plug it right into the PS5 and be ready to go. I'll save the SSD for the PS5 games I already own Like Ratchet & Clank and The Uncharted 4/Legacy Remaster.
Congrats, it's a nice-ass system.
It's arriving tomorrow. I finished copying all my PS4 games to my external drive and copied my game saves to a thumb drive. I tried to upload all my saves to PSN but I apparently had too many.
Sent from my SM-A326U using Tapatalk
PS5 just arrived. My daughter had her wisdom teeth pulled today and is camping out in the living room, so I'm setting it up in my office for today.
I wasted my time copying my saved data to thumb drives yesterday. I was able to connect my PS5 to my PS4 and transfer everything in about 15 minutes.
I think it may be uglier in person ;D .
I've come to appreciate mine a bit more, vertical really helps. Digital version looks better than the disc drive one.
Unfortunately it's going to be horizontal when it makes the move to the living room tonight.
I was only able to stand it up in my office because that wall unit is getting thrown out next month and is nearly empty now. I just have the TV, PS2 slim, Fios box and now PS5 in there.
I moved the PS5 to its permanent location last night. At least it doesn't show up as much now.
I never buy third-party accessories, but I'm seriously considering taking a chance on these side plates for only $19: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B097XXCVKC/
The difference between Spider-man: Remastered and Spider-man: Mile Morales running at 30fps and 60fps is unbelievable. You can switch between graphics modes right in the games which really shows the difference between the two.
I also tried my PS4 version of The Show 20 and it looks great too. The improved frame rates makes it look and feel like a new game. If you hid the menus, I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this version and the next-gen 22 version running on my Series X.
The PS5 is the best PS4 ever made.
Nice update for the PS5 today. It allows you to create Game Lists, which are essentially folders, and offers native 1440p output.
I was very surprised to find that MotoGP 20 and Ride 3 got 60fps updates on the PS5 since they're older games. I've been playing Ride 4, which got a free PS5 upgrade, all weekend. I went from hating this game on PS4 to being hooked on it on PS5.
See post #92.
I was also happy to find out that the white controller included with my PS5 is a newer model with stronger trigger springs and improved analog sticks. If the FCC ID on the back of the controller ends in A, you have the new and improved model. These improvements were originally included with only the pink, light blue and purple controllers, so it's nice to see the updates have made it into the rest of them.
You should grab the Playstation DualSense Charging Station.
I bought that as soon as I completed my order for my PS5. It's also a nice stand for the controllers when they're done charging.
I ended up ordering inexpensive black face plates for my PS5. They'll be here tomorrow. They're supposed to work with the stand when the system lays horizontally, but I'll find out for sure tomorrow.
New face plates came today and I'm very happy with them.
I bought my son a black PS5 controller and besides looking better in person than in pictures, it also comes with the new trigger springs. I guess all the existing stock of the older models controllers has been sold.
Sony has announced that its "pro" version of the DualSense wireless controller, the DualSense Edge will launch globally on January 26, 2023, with an MSRP of $200 USD.
Or you could buy three more standard controllers.
I've never purchased a premium controller. I think $119 would be the most I'd spend on one.
I just purchased PS5 Digital Edition (God of War) console for my younger son for Christmas. Maybe I'll finally be able to play mine now.
The Witcher 3 next-gen update is out today. Unfortunately, it requires 85GB of SSD space, so I won't be installing it anytime soon.
What's taking up all of the space?
A majority of the games belong to my son, but I'll be able to delete them once he gets his PS5 for Christmas.
So, RDR1 is being ported, not remastered, for PS4/5. Undead Nightmare makes the cut, multiplayer doesn't.
Sony intends on charging full price for this, good god they have no shame.
I think Rockstar is to blame for this. They also outsourced it to a studio (Double Eleven) with a less than stellar record. You'd think they would have learned their lesson from the GTA Trilogy Collection disaster, but I guess not. To say I'm disappointed by this announcement would be an understatement.
Amazon is currently running a sale on Dual Sense controllers ($49). I ended up buying the Cosmic Red one.

What makes this even more frustrating is that Rockstar already recreated the entire world of RDR 1 in RDR 2. You'd think having the entire world already updated to the new engine/graphics would go a long way towards getting a full remaster done.
Instead, they sub out a quick port of the inferior PS3 version and make a quick buck, because lord knows that Shark Card money is never enough.
My 2TB internal drive for my PS5 arrived today. I'm downloading a bunch of games right now and hope I'll still have some room available once I'm done.
I just had my first stick drift issue ever with the Dual Sense controller that shipped with my console. The controller hasn't even been used much since I use my purple controller most of the time.
I don't understand why this has become such an issue with modern consoles. I've had 10 Dual Shock 4 controllers and never had the issue. My son is still using two different Dual Shock 2 controllers on my PS2 and I have the original Dual Analog, which came out before the Dual Shock, from my PS 1 days that still works fine.
If anyone runs into the issue, you can confirm it using this gamepad tester: https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad
I think L3/R3 inputs are so common now it blows out the sticks. It ate up several DS4s of mine until I got the back button attachment. I use the pro controllers on PS5 and Series for the same reason.
I'd have no problem paying the money for an Elite controller since I really like the way they look, but I've heard they have quality-control issues and are also prone to stick drift.
Maybe they'll add Hall Effect sensors to the Elite 3.0, which would make it a must buy.
I have the DualSense Edge and now the Elite Series 2. Zero issues with either, I think a lot of people are just really rough on their stuff.
Quote from: Brad Company on August 22, 2023 @ 03:24 PMI have the DualSense Edge and now the Elite Series 2. Zero issues with either, I think a lot of people are just really rough on their stuff.
I can't argue with that. I don't understand how people can spend so much money on things and then treat them like shit. Every game, console and controller I've owned is still in mint condition, including my NES and Genesis.
My younger son takes after me. He uses isopropyl rubbing alcohol with Q-tips and compressed air to clean his controllers every few weeks.
My son and I watch a YouTube channel called TronixFix, where he buys broken consoles and accessories to fix them. There were PS5 consoles that were in such bad shape only a few months after it was released. What do these people do to get scratches all over their consoles?
I know, it's crazy how trashed things are and it's why I take reviews of gaming accessories with a huge grain of salt. It seems every headset and controller except mine completely break apart in 6 months.
I finally got around to downloading and playing the 2-hour MLB The Show 23 Trial on the PS5 and I'm impressed with it. This was the first time in a long time that I could see an upgrade in the graphics from the previous year. I haven't seen any frame rate issues either, but I've played the previous two versions ('22 and '21) on Xbox. Apparently, the game runs better on the Playstation hardware.
The one upgrade that may convince me to buy it once it's $20 on PS5 (currently $20 on Xbox) is the improved player movement and fielding. I went into '22 and did fielding practice for 20 minutes and then switched over to '23 and did the same, and the improvement was very noticeable.
I'm tempted to buy it on Xbox, since it's currently on sale, but I already have all my settings saved for the PS5 version and I'm sure it will drop to $20 on there soon too.
It's free on Gamepass. If you can stand being a year behind, every EA Spurts game is free, too.
I think I'm done with gaming subscriptions once my PS Plus expires next month. I've bought MLB The Show the past two years on Xbox, so I'll wait for it to drop to $20 on PS5 and buy it there this year. I just find it strange that it's currently on sale for both consoles, yet the Xbox version is $20 while the PS5 version is $40.
Sony is releasing 3 new controller and console covers. I really like the blue one.
I wonder when Dualsense Edge will get new colors.
Quote from: Brad Company on September 17, 2023 @ 11:43 AMI wonder when Dualsense Edge will get new colors.
I was under the impressions that the Dualsense Edge had swappable face plates, but it looks like only the bottom, black face plate is swappable.

A new update today adds 60fps support when playing on the PS5. I'd actually buy this now once it drops in price.
I should have said Rockstar has no shame, but yeah 6ofps is a nice add. Odd that it was never mentioned pre-release. still way overpriced for sure.
Definitely overpriced at $50, but it makes a strong case at $10 - $20 now.
I'm so glad I didn't wait for the PS5 slim. I didn't think it was possible to make the console any uglier, but Sony did it and they're charging $50 more for the digital edition. The best part is that you have to pay an additional $30 for the vertical stand, which is not included in the console, and the included horizontal stand looks like a cheap plastic clip.
I also found it interesting that they didn't show the size of the new console in comparison to the current console. My guess is that the actual footprint is not much smaller than the original.
Update: IGN has posted an image of the two consoles next to each other based on the released on specs of the slim.
Literally no reason to get one if you have one already.
Nice feature added to the PS5, which was surprisingly not done with a system update. You can now check for updates on games in your library. Before you could only do it with the games on your home screen.
My younger son got Spider-Man 2 for his birthday, so I watched him play for a few hours yesterday and the game is a visual marvel. It's hard to see in YouTube videos how much better looking this game is than the original, including the remaster.
Another thing I thought would be tough to improve on was the traversal, but Insomniac did again. I had my doubts about the new gliding feature, but after trying it out it would be hard going back to the first game.
We're only 8 hours in, but I really like the story so far and can't wait to see how things play out.
It's also supposed to have the best VRR and Atmos implementations to date.
Unfortunately I'm stuck watching it on my son's 32", 1080p, non-HDR TV. I can't believe there's still no way to copy your PS5 games saves to a USB stick so they can be moved to another console. Even when we had PS Plus, his saves weren't saved in the cloud since he's a child account.
One of the Xbox's best features is cloud saves, even if you don't subscribe to Xbox Live/Game Pass, making it seamless to move between consoles when playing games and picking up right where you left off.

The only car I'm interested in is the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) '22, which is only 340k. I was expecting them to charge much more for it. I had spent over $6 million on cars last month but still had enough left over to buy it.
Finally got invited to a PS5 beta. The only other time I got a PS5 beta is when Brad sent me a code for one.
Well I caved and picked up a PS5 Digital Slim today. Was in the big city and I needed something non-sports game related. So I bought a PSN Premium for 3 months since it is cheaper than purchasing Horizon Forbidden West and Death Stranding (which are both included in the service) plus a couple of other games I am interested in trying. Bought God of War Ragnarok and The Last of Us 2 Remastered/Enhanced Versions for the PS5. With these 4 games and NCAA/Madden 25 on Xbox I should stay pretty busy.
Edit: And as I was typing this I realized Days Gone is available in the PS Plus library. Add that to the list.
I am excited for all the exclusives coming to Xbox but none I am interested are available until the end of the year (Indiana Jones and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2) and most are pushed back to 2025. It will stay my main console for anything available on both because the Xbox controller just feels so much better and I also prefer the cleaner UI and quick resume.
Congratulations on the purchase. GoW Ragnarok and Last of Us Part 2 are great games. This is the first generation that I bought both consoles and I'm happy I did. Like you, I prefer the Xbox controller over the the Dual Sense.
If you have any game recommendations that are games not on Xbox, feel free and toss them out. I am not into racing games (sorry GB Simo if you are still out there). Mostly into shooters and action adventures, along with those casual farming sims like Stardew Valley.

People are finally getting tired of live service Fortnite ripoffs.
Also paying $40 for a game competing against F2P games with MTX that are hugely popular. This never made any sense. The game was in development for 8 years. Imagine working on a game for that long to have it removed after two weeks.
Let's hope Sony learned a lesson from this. Stick to what you're good at and stop chasing the live service jackpot.
Quote from: BoomerSooner on September 03, 2024 @ 04:23 PMIf you have any game recommendations that are games not on Xbox, feel free and toss them out. I am not into racing games (sorry GB Simo if you are still out there). Mostly into shooters and action adventures, along with those casual farming sims like Stardew Valley.
You really need to play God of War (2018) if you plan on playing Ragnarok since it's a continuation of the story. I'd also recommend Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. The "remaster" of Red Dead Redemption runs at 60fps on the PS5 too.
Never been a fan of Super Hero games. I did like the Infamous games though. Been through RDR/Zombie AddOn running 60fps on Xbox. Would love to have 60fps upgrade for RDR2. Kinda enjoyed the Astro playroom game that was included. Ran through each area once which was enough for me. I know the new one is coming soon and with a steep price drop I would give it a run.
Naughty Dog, they just deliver. Two hours in TLOU2 and it's just a sight to behold. Makes me wish they would restart something with the Uncharted series, I loved those games. They could go back to Sir Francis Drake or the daughter.
RDR isn't 60fps on Xbox. It was upscaled to 4K on the Series X, but still runs at a locked 30fps.
Sony fucked Naughty Dog this generation by having them waste years making the live service Last of Us shooter that was wisely cancelled before its release. It's a shame they haven't had a new game released this generation yet. I think their next game will be a cross platform PS5/PS6 game.
Wow, I had no clue it was not 60fps. Usually that is something I notice pretty early on.
How about a Syphon Filter game? It was made by Bend Studios (Days Gone) way back in the day.
Always look before hitting reply: They are also working on yet another "Live Service" game for Sony. ::)
I haven't played it, but I think Syphon Filter on the PS5 runs at 60fps.
I'm curious if you'll still love TLOU 2 once you get to the halfway point. I'm with the people who think it's a brilliant game. There's a lot to digest once you're done.
One thing I avoided over the years was not spoiling the story, outside of people saying you will hate the new female character, then things happen and it becomes split amongst the players.
They did a nice job on the first part so far. I am at the cabin with Joel and the golf club. It will be interesting where it goes but to be fair the new female character has died by my hands countless times as I am still getting used to the controls, the controller and the dodge system. The area right before the cabin where she meets Joel and his brother was like a short horror movie as many times as I got her killed. You just have no time to pop a med pack.
In the long scene before with Ellie and her friend with benefits, I never died because they do a really good job of making stealth the best option and it works well.
I only played it last summer and was able to avoid all spoilers before that. I had no idea who Abby was or what happens to Joel.
I don't even recall how it was spoiled it really did not bother me. I have always been a gameplay over story guy. Naughty Dog games and RDR/RDR2 are the only ones that I never skipped through any part of the story. Maybe a few others but it's rare.
Not sure how you feel about platformers, but the new Astro Bot game is getting great reviews. I'll get it for my son at some point.
I enjoy them in spurts. I played the Astro game that was included with the system. Beat all the levels once but no plans to go through and find all the secrets. The reviews for the new one have been great but not worth $59.99 for me, especially after just playing the last one. With a deep discount I would give a try. So many games in my backlog now I have plenty to keep my busy.
PS5 Pro announcement coming today at 11am ET. Curious to see how much it's going to be.
It's an impressive console, but $700 for the digital-only version when the standard digital-only console is only $400 is a lot.
If I can get half of that in trade for my existing digital PS5, I might consider it. The disc drive and vertical stand can blow me.
I was unrealistically hoping for $600 so I could give my current PS5 to my older son and get a PS5 Pro for myself.
Yeah, $700 for a console with no drive. When the PS4 Pro was released it retailed for $399.99 with a drive. Plus it looked like a stack of pancakes. ;D
I am happy with what I got. Most of the games I have are remasters of PS4 games. So that extra power does little for me.
Every game will benefit from upscaling, evidently.
But if a game is native 4k and my TV is 4k, what exactly is going to be upscaled? A question from someone that is not tech savvy. I have no clue how this stuff works.
It sounds like something you see on the back cover of an EA Sports game or when Sony came out with the "Emotion Engine" for the PS2.
Most games are not running at native 4K, especially games running in performance mode or 60fps. Even games running in fidelity mode at 30fps can be running at 1440 or 1080 and upscaled to 4k, and even then the resolution is dynamic.
That makes sense. I am definitely running most games in performance mode. I always prioritize framerate over resolution. That said framerate is more noticeable to my old eyes over 1080p vs 4k resolution.
Well it's not like I am the intended audience for the Pro as I just bought the PS5 digital slim. Everything I have played so far on it looks and runs great. Plua the Xbox remains my base console.
I agree - frame rate is more noticeable and more important to me. I can tell immediately if a game is running at 30fps or 60fps, but I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between 1440 and 1080 resolutions.
As much as I am enjoying TLOU2 they did something I hate in games. Having to kill dogs. Multiple dogs, that are not wild but trained dogs with handlers.
I tried to stealth through it but never got far.
I hate killing any type of animal in games. It's one of the things I disliked in the Tomb Raider series.
I'm guessing you're on Seattle day 2 or 3. Just wait, you'll be more pissed off.
New PS5 firmware update out today that finally includes the customizable Welcome Hub, which replaces the useless Explore Hub.
Full Details: https://mp1st.com/news/ps5-update-version-version-24-06-10-00-00-released-this-sept-12-and-introduces-new-features
Two things that are a bit annoying right now with the PS5.
The store seems needlessly complex. You have a pre order section that lists a small section of games. There is no true coming soon section. If you scroll down to the one area where you can select PS5 games you get a mixture of games that are out and just announced games. Also would it be that hard to put on the box covers that a game is VR only. Just slap it right at the bottom where it shows if it is a PS4/PS5 game.
Second, if you are going to raise the prices of the controller $5, how about raise the battery life while you are at it.
The entire PS5 UI is far worse than the Xbox's. I'm still annoyed about them reversing the functions of the long and short presses on the PS button. I don't know if anybody uses them, but the activity cards seems to be a huge waste of space to me too.
A second controller and charging station are almost a requirement for all PS5 owners. I know the Dual Sense has more features than the Xbox controller, but I can literally go weeks without the need to charge my Xbox controller while not being able to go more than 2 days without charging my Dual Sense.
Brent, are you still paying TLOU 2?
Yup, Day 3 Seattle. More dogs to deal with. I go really slow with these games, trying to find all the collectable stuff like the notes and comic cards, because I rarely play through games like this a second time no matter how much I love it. If a game has alternate endings I just youtube them.
They do a good job of keeping your resources fairly low by limiting how many you can have at one time. I don't think I have used the smoke bomb once. Occasionally use shrapnel bomb on non humans. Mostly use the Molotov. Bow is my fav weapon but use guns more due to never having enough tape. This game needs more tape like Don't Fear the Reaper needs more Cowbell.
Story has been great, though I tend to play as Ellie through the eyes of Joel. More as a father figure. So all the romance stuff makes me uncomfortable too. Which I have to credit the writers for, as I rarely care about a character enough to feel this way. I doubt the game will ever pull me against Joel because if such a thing happened in real life, with today's society as fractured as it is, we would make most of these characters look like angels in comparison.
Things will get very interesting really soon...
They did get interesting. I am up to the section where Abby has to go back to the aquarium area to find her ex bf.
[spoiler]Abby having to use a dog on patrol. Leave the good boys out of your territorial spat with the cultists. The game has made it impossible for me to like her. Hates dogs, possibly Zebras (she did not dad to waste time looking after it), her dad was a monster, a terrible taste in men and she killed one of the few redeeming characters in the game, Jessie. Plus she joined the WLF which may have started with good intentions, but based on some of the notes you read was just as bad as the rest of the factions.
While they tried to frame it that the cure was a given, there is no way to know that until Ellie (a child that had to be killed) and it was actually tested on people. Plus if the fireflies were to somehow make a cure, then they gain the power they have been seeking throughout what I can recall from the original. The Fireflies were not all rainbows and sunshine.
TLDR; They are all monsters. Except Jessie and the dogs.

My son and I have spent hours discussing how the series should end, assuming they make a third one. He thought Ellie should finally give her life to make a cure and have the world start to rebuild. I strongly disagree with that. I think they should realize that they can't make a vaccine from Ellie, which makes Joel's decision at the end of part one to be the correct one and makes him a hero. It's not like these games are known for having happy endings, so it would seem out of place for a cure to be available.
Or...they could never answer the question and just leave it up to the player to decide whether or not Joel did the right thing. For the record, I think he did.
Youthful optimism is great but in the TLOU world a cure would be nothing more than a means to power and control by the Fireflies. The world would not be saved by it.
I agree with you on Joel, though I might not go as far as calling him a hero.
The great thing about the series is it really shows how split people are as to who are the good/bad guys are. The problem is the story in TLOU2 tries too hard to make you root for Abby, when she is just as flawed as the rest of them.

That's the main reason a lot of people hate the game.
New 30th Anniversary hardware revealed today. I have the 20th Anniversary controller for the PS4 and hope I can get the 30th for the PS5. I love the classic colors.
Just completed the mission with Abby where you have to get med supplies for the Seraphite at the hospital. That monstrosity took me down a few times. I am kinda softening on Abby, if not for her obsession with that D bag Owen, I might even like her.
Why do you hate Owen? I don't remember him being that bad.

Seriously though, because he just used Abby after getting that other one pregnant. Then planning on leaving the girl he got pregnant to go California. He was always moody and a big manchild.

Just finished the Island chapter. I get the feeling I am getting near the end. This game alone has made the PS5 purchase worth it. The gameplay is excellent. The ways you can tackle a group of enemies just using the environment is well done. Never been a fan of stealth but works so well in the game. Have not run into a single bug, though I am playing the game years later. Story is good, not great. Too much time trying to tug on the heartstrings.
I might do a higher difficulty run but have a backlog to get through first. One thing ND does that is annoying are the "you opened certain doors and you get locked out of backtracking." I missed out on two safes (The top of the ship and the building you have to traverse down after falling in the pool) because you open a door that can't be reopened. The game saves and there is no way to go back without restarting the chapter.

You're not as close to the end as you might think.
I was not expecting that. Seemed like thing were coming to a close.

I sat in the Sony Direct queue since 7am, but I was able to get the 30th Anniversary DualSense controller for my son. I was hoping to get one for myself, but they only allowed one per order. I'm back in the queue hoping they're still available when I get back in.
Edit: Got back in but wasn't allowed to place a second order.
Just made it to California. Met the new faction.

Finished the game. Even with the story gripes this was an excellent sequel. Hopefully there is a third in the works.

Now on to Days Gone. Saving GOW since it is paid for, where the others are part of the PS+ sub.
I was curious to know what you thought about the ending.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Daya Gone is an interesting game. Bend Studios is no Naughty Dog setting up a story, that opening was short and did not really say much. The game itself looks great along with the weather effects. Early on it feels like a slightly more janky TLOU with more zombies, which is fine with me. Not a fan of using the touchscreen to navigate menus, though you can use the bumpers. Just not very intuitive. Still early on, will see how it goes.
Also started the Shattered Space DLC for Starfield. Already have a glitched mission. Shelving it for a patch or two or three. My Love/Hate with Bethesda games continues on.
Starting to see why Days Gone had it share of critics. It gets repetitive. Plus the map is not that big and I just end up fast traveling between the three camps. Hop on bike get a bounty quest over radio. Fast travel, buy gas, do mission, rinse and repeat.
Still plan to finish the story but it is becoming a grind.

Sony had the 30th Anniversary console and controllers back in stock today at 12pm ET and I was able to finally get a 30th Anniversary controller for myself. I'll wait until Christmas to open it so my son and I can open them together.
I think I want the Pro now. I'd sell off my OG model and a Series S if I do.

PSSR seems to be the real deal and not just typical marketing BS. That alone makes the PS5 Pro much more interesting now.
Now that there are some PS5 Pros out in the wild, it's been confirmed that it comes with an additional 2GB of DDR5 RAM. I also did not realize that it comes with a 2TB SSD drive. I'd seriously consider getting one if the price was $100 cheaper.

Sony Direct is offering $350 for a PS5 Digital Edition (with controller) towards the purchase of a PS5 Pro (when in stock). That's a great deal.
Sony may have overestimated demand for the PS5 Pro. It's currently in-stock and available on all online stores and PlayStation Direct. I'd love to see all the scalpers get fucked over the availability of the console.
They're going to get fucked, I walked into BB today and bought one. Gonna sell my OG to someone I know, or it's going to the local game store.
Unloaded my OG PS5 and Series S. Found a disc drive for my Pro at WallyWorld today.

I'm surprised you bought a disc drive. I thought you were all digital. How are you liking the Pro so far?
I'm considering giving my older son my PS5 and getting the Pro since they're readily available everywhere.
I'm all digital, yes, but wanted to have options if things start to get delisted, plus it's yet one more UHD player. I also just want to get the thing fully pimped, I got the vertical stand, and I'm putting in a Seagate 1TB SSD . :)) Overall, I'm digging it, obviously it's more of a future-proofing thing, and my coil whiny OG was 3 years old. The Pro is very quiet, just a bit of fan noise if you listen very carefully. So, not quite as silent as the Series X, but quieter than any other console I've had.
I'd get the vertical stand too, especially with the cheap plastic horizontal clips. This is the first generation of consoles (PS5 and Series X) that look better standing vertically. Unfortunately, I have to keep both of mine laying on their sides.
Fat PS2's look good vertical, Slim and SuperSlim PS3's as well. Xboxes never did till Series models.
